Travel grant - Faculty of Medicine
Are you a student at the Faculty of Medicine planning to complete part of your studies abroad? If so, you may be eligible to apply for our travel grant. The grant can be used to cover travel expenses, visa fees, vaccinations, and certain hospital-related costs. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Please note: As of June 15, 2025, applications must be submitted after returning from your stay abroad.
How to apply for the travel grant
1. Am I eligible?
Read the rules to find out who can apply and how much funding you may receive. See the section below on this webpage.
2. Complete the ReadySetGo course – before departure
Before traveling, you must complete the preparatory course ReadySetGo.

3. Apply for the travel grant – immediately after returning
Your application must be submitted no later than one month after your return and must include all required receipts and information. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
A. Write a travel report

Attach your receipts in PDF format. Receipts must clearly indicate the nature of the expense:
- Travel tickets must show the date, destination, and traveler’s name. If this information is missing, a bank statement must be included showing the payment details. If you purchased tickets for more than one person, clearly indicate which receipt pertains to you.
- Vaccination receipts must specify which vaccination was administered.

Note: If you do not register your account, you will receive a payment notice by mail, which must be redeemed for a fee.
Who Can Apply?
You are eligible to apply for the travel grant if:
- You are a registered student at the Faculty of Medicine throughout your stay abroad.
- You are studying abroad as part of your degree programme. This includes summer courses within the nursing, radiography, and rehabilitation programmes. Grants are also available for uniwide exchanges (university-wide agreements).
- You are temporarily residing in the host country during your exchange.
- Your stay abroad lasts at least 15 working days. For the specialist nursing and midwifery programmes, the minimum is 10 working days.
To be eligible for the Faculty of Medicine’s travel grant, you must complete the digital preparatory course ReadySetGo before your stay abroad (link available above). You must also submit a travel report after returning. You may receive the travel grant a maximum of two times.
Grant Amounts
- For studies outside Europe: up to SEK 5,000 for travel expenses (for example airfare, train, bus).
- For studies within Europe: up to SEK 2,500 for travel expenses.
- Vaccination and visa costs: up to SEK 2,500 (health certificates are considered vaccinations)
- Healthcare-related fees (for example hospital access fees, supervision fees not related to university): up to SEK 1,500. These fees are uncommon and should generally not apply to exchanges with partner universities.
- If you travel round-trip by train to your study destination, you may receive up to SEK 1,000 in additional travel grant. For one-way train travel, up to SEK 500. This extra train grant is only available if your total train costs exceed the regular travel grant. The entire journey must be completed by train.
Note: Receipts are required to verify all expenses.
What Is Not Covered by the Travel Grant?
- Travel to destinations where the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises against all travel. If such advice is issued during your stay abroad, you must return home within 30 days to receive the grant.
- Studies funded by scholarships from Crafoord Foundation, Nordplus, Erasmus+, MFS, or other grants exceeding SEK 15,000.
- The medical programme’s elective and advanced courses Global Health and Pediatrics in Low-Income Countries. Travel grants for these courses are managed separately.
- Conferences and IFMSA activities.
- Tuition fees.
- Commuting costs (for commuting during internships, refer to your programme’s commuting grant).
